Advantages of duplex stainless steels
.... compared to comparable austenitic steels:
- considerably higher strengths, yield strength Rp0.2 over 400 N/mm² - also welded
- Greater price stability due to lower alloy surcharges
- Lower price compared to the austenitic steels, which are equivalent in terms of corrosion resistance
- Lower thermal expansion
- Greater fatigue strength, thus ensuring greater stability under dynamic loads
- Higher structurally calculable modulus of elasticity values, in accordance with DIBt approval
- Greater resistance against chloride- and hydrogen-induced stress crack corrosion
- Lean duplex stainless steel grades with greater high-temperature resistance, because there is no decline in the yield point, and the lower level (or zero level) of Mo-content considerably reduces its tendency towards embrittlement
